The Pitch Pipe - January 2009 - (Page 40) Flying plays havoc with our voices. But there is a solution. In response to last issue’s article on the Pearls of Wisdom on long distance flying, New Zealand member Beth Houlbrooke suggests a stunning solution to dry cabin air. The HumidiFlyer - Invented by ex Air New Zealand International flight attendant Paul Aberhart. Necessity being the mother of invention, Paul decided that there had to be a solution to the problem of dehydration and jet lag. “The HumidiFlyer has been selling well to International Sporting teams, frequent flyers and especially singers. When you have to perform in any endeavour, you need to arrive on top of your game.” Our member Beth tells us - “I have terrible trouble with long distance flying. My sinuses burn painfully with the dryness which makes it impossible to rest, let alone get any sleep. So by the time I arrive I’m not only sleep deprived but suffering with respiratory difficulties for days afterwards. That can’t be good for the voice either, so now I wear my HumidiFlyer, I get a better sleep and no discomfort from dryness.” Australian Opera singer Merlyn Quaife reports “I used a HumidiFlyer recently en route for Europe where I was engaged to sing. Not only did I suffer little jetlag, but the voice was fresh and I was able to sing well from day 1 - normally takes 2-3 days to rehearse with ease. I shall certainly be recommending the HumidiFlyer to my colleagues and students.” Check it out at www.humidiflyer.com 40 January 2009 The acceptance of advertisements by Sweet Adelines International does not necessarily signify endorsement of the products or services.
