What's not to love?
Our February issue highlights golf and romance - a winning combination
for so many Villagers. In this edition, we talk turf with Rickey Craig, director of
golf maintenance. Learn about upgraded greens and better bunkers to come on
championship courses in 2018. "What's New in Golf " features that story and
news about golf travel and friendly golf, a game for the casual golfer who aims
for fun over all.
In our "Couples Who Play Together" feature, we chat with couples whose
golf rounds yield romance and stronger bonds with spouses. Named one of
the top teachers in the country, LPGA pro Patty Sidoti said, "I always wanted
to meet someone who understood golf." Read about how she met her husband,
Joe, and their adventures and achievements as Minnesota's "Mr. and Mrs. Golf."
And the numbers are in! Check out "Golf by the Numbers," in which we've
tallied the total rounds played, hole-in-one shots and other fun statistics on golf in
The Villages. If you ever doubted the community's passion for putting, you'll see
the truth in numbers there. And if improving your game is the goal this year, read
our tips and techniques from Palmer Academy instructors and try them out on
the "12 Most Challenging Holes." In the latter story, facility managers and avid
golfers pointed out the toughest places to sink a shot. See if you agree.
And if you're cruising the course or out on town squares, you may notice
a new electric vehicle that is tiny and trending. Atomic golf carts are turning
heads and spurring conversation in the community. All this talk has members
of the Atomic Cart Owners Club adjusting their schedules.
"We have to leave our homes early because everyone has questions,"
said club member Debbie Green, of the Village of Mallory Square. "It's pretty
common to have a 10-minute chat with a stranger about my cart." Club
president Richard Hill said most people want to know about the battery life,
whether the carts are golf-course friendly and how much they cost. Our
"Behind the Wheel" page has the full scoop for curious golf-cart enthusiasts.
These are just a few of the many great stories in our February issue, in
which we muse on things that touch our hearts - love, golf and our incredibly
connected community.
