As the performance commenced, costumes sparkled
and stage lights streaked colors in every direction. Suddenly, the scene changed and a drop-down wall emerged.
The words "Will you marry me, Patty?" appeared.
The show stopped and the crowd cheered, "Say yes!"
Patty accepted. Making her move from California
to Minnesota, she found new opportunities in the golf
industry.
"I got a job at a wonderful club and Joe and I became
'Mr. and Mrs. Golf,'" she said. "I did a segment on
television called Golf Tip Tuesday, and Joe and I did
a separate show on Saturdays at the same station. He
talked about equipment and I talked about technique."
With his industry savvy and her golf skills, the
couple made an impact on and off the course. They
were involved with Tee it Up for the Troops, a fundraising
effort that benefits veterans and their families.
"We're in the Minnesota cancer hall of fame because
of the work we did in a golf tournament that is still
going on today," Joe said. "(The tournament) raised
millions, and 98 percent went to patient care or cancer

research. We used our golf background to make a
living, have fun and give back," Joe said.
In 2011, Patty gave the last golf lesson of her 30year teaching career to a promising young student.
"Patty was one of the top 50 teachers in the
country," Joe said. But it was time for a change of pace
and The Villages seemed like the perfect place to make
new memories.
Now content in their Village of Collier home, Joe
and Patty continue to sink shots on area courses with
the goal of perfecting the best game they'll ever play:
marriage. And as their 25th anniversary approaches,
Patty ponders their journey.
"I'm amazed at the things we were able to do
together," Patty said. "I look back now and am so
grateful for all of the opportunities we shared and the
platform we were able to build from to do good things."
