The Villages - May 2013 - (Page 30)

DREAMMAKER Dreammaker SUZANNE HURTEAU BY GARY CORSAIR yfi D “The incredible landscaping was the first thing I noticed when I came to The Villages,” Suzanne recalled. “I remember thinking, “Somebody does an amazing job keeping everything looking so beautiful all the time.” She now realizes it takes several “somebodies” to keep The Villages looking like Eden. In fact, she is now one of those “somebodies.” As administrative assistant for Landscape Manager Erik Knudsen, Suzanne fields queries about landscaping and water use, processes Architectural Review Committee requests to remove trees, and also maintains a room filled with plat drawings. “She really helps me out a lot when it comes to resident phone calls and questions about the landscape and trees,” Knudsen said. “She probably knows the answers to more about landscape questions in our department than most of the rest of the folks in the District Property Management Department, other than my two landscape supervisors, who are degreed horticulturalists.” Suzanne may not be a horticulturist, but she knows beauty. Suzanne saw plenty of lush land while living in Colorado, Illinois and Alaska. The 49th state really made an impression. “I really loved living in Alaska, as it is one of the most ruggedly beautiful places on Earth, in my opinion,” Suzanne said. And now she’s lovin’ The Villages lifestyle. “I moved to The Villages in May of 2007 to help my parents, who live here and are in their 80s,” Suzanne said. “I was hired in October 2007 as a part-time administrative assistant and went to full-time in April of 2008.” Knudsen has been smiling ever since.
