Ed Kozlowski, of the Village of Sanibel, has
been taking Hirr's Swim Fit class at Colony Cottage
Recreation Center for some time, since nearly the
beginning, he said.
"I started out doing a half-mile and swallowing half
the pool in the process," he joked. "But I stuck with it
and have come a long way. Being out here is almost a
religious experience. I look forward to it."
Relaxation, a good workout and the opportunity to
leave his mind elsewhere - that's what the class offers
Kozlowski. And he's just one of the many committed
members making a splash twice per week.
Kozlowski said the class has grown, and those who
attend are like family. The group hosts a range of skill
levels, with each member starting out with a warm-up
and moving on to complete a series of intervals.
"Trice shows you how much you don't know about
swimming," Kozlowski said.
A former runner, he prefers his water workouts
because they are easier on the joints. He's currently
working to achieve a better form and greater speed
through Hirr's instruction.
