Randy Martin, T&D's construction coordinator,
described what came next.
"It was like building three or four pools at once.
It took our guys two weeks to complete the job -
we normally do a pool in a day."
With more than 30 years of pool construction
under his belt, Randy admits that this job was
their most elaborate to date.
"Everything had to be thought out. Vera put
it on paper and our team made it work. Our guys
are artists, and they really enjoyed building it,
being able to work with all of the natural rock.
Every stone was hand-placed. There are more
than 12,000 screws in the cage alone. It was a
tremendous effort, but when we fired it up and it all
worked, we were so excited. What an undertaking."
"I camped out for six hours one day," Vera said.
"I watched the crane and all the men at work -
the whole company, every employee touched this
job in one way or another. And they are so proud."
"I still have people coming up and telling me
they worked on my pool," Kathy added.
The Hasemans' beach flows out from a travertine
deck, deepening as it slopes into a lazy river, surrounded by an island spa, blazing bowls of fire and
lush Florida foliage that is tucked into beds, softening the stone elements. A conversation pit is nestled
near the bar - the perfect spot for drinks in the water. A contemporary cave, in the theme of a grotto,
allows cool bursts of water to cascade near a bridge.
"We had the whole upper area designed with
the grandkids in mind, with a custom-made
railing on the bridge and an area for the kids to
splash and have fun," Kathy said.
