"Maybe 50,000 people and nothing south of 466,"
he said. "But it was a great place."
A North Carolina native, Cagle grew up in
Waynesville, approximately 30 miles southwest of
Asheville, under the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Parkway
is a scenic road, stretching from Virginia to Cherokee,
North Carolina, wound between mountain peaks and
the lush crowns of balsam fir trees, flowering dogwoods,
American sweetgum and more.
"It was beautiful in the summertime, but it could get
nasty in the winter," Cagle said.
As a child, he watched his father help neighbors
by doing odd jobs and offering assistance whenever
possible. He learned to give prodigiously and without
expectations. Cagle later forged a career at the CocaCola Company. When he retired at age 57, he had plenty
of energy to burn. So when he moved to The Villages, he
saw a need for handyman services and got to work.
"The Villages is an incredible place to live," he said.
"We all take pride in the neighborhood."

Cagle said neighbors are generous, too.
"They want to pay me for everything I do," he said.
"But when they pull out their wallets, I say, 'This is not a
job. I'm retired.'"
With grown-up grandkids, Cagle admits he no longer
gets a lot of family visits.
"They have their own lives, but that's all right," he
said. "I'm just fine because this neighborhood is my
family. I think we all feel that way."
Around Thanksgiving Day, Cagle and his partner,
Tish, host a neighborhood feast, inviting anyone and
everyone to take a seat at the "family" table and break
bread with a gracious group.
"It's not charity - it's just a good time," he said. "If
you don't have a place to go, you're welcome to come."
From summertime soirees to Super Bowl parties,
there's always an open chair for a neighbor.
"We party; we take care of each other," Cagle said.
"I never thought I would have this much fun in
retirement," Touhey added.
