In addition to pride for the team, Hussein and DaSilva
said they are proud of The Villages, and feel they have
chosen the perfect venue.
"We always intended to show that this is a retirement
community with so much to do and something for
everyone. If we can do this thing anywhere, it's got to be
here," Hussein said.
As for the future, Hussein said the team has acquired
some land and intends to implement an academy.
"If we do this right, we can host state and national
championships - make Florida a spring training hub for
players," Hussein said.
After only its first year, the PDL has established a
reputation and no longer has to recruit players.
"We get thousands of requests, videos, etcetera,"
DaSilva said.
"The belief in the players and their mutual trust in us
has been very rewarding for me," Sierra said. "Athletes
from all over have wanted to come to us. They know our
name and what we represent. That's a good feeling."
For co-founders Hussein and DaSilva, The Villages
Soccer Club is not merely a sport or a business. It is a
mission.
"If I've learned anything from The Villages it is this -
Nothing is impossible." Hussein said.
