Education - A Family Affair:
Three Generations at The Villages High School

Q.How do you feel having Grandma and
Mom at school with you?
A.I definitely feel more comfortable with
them around. I'm just used to it. I can always
get help with issues that come up - even
if they're miniscule. Grandma will either
help me out or tell me to get over myself!
Sometimes I need that, too. It's just nice to
have the extra time with my grandma. We
get to connect.
Q.Do you think you'll follow in the
family footsteps and pursue a career in
A.I was interested in special education, but
through the dual enrollment program, I was
able to take an intro to education course and I
quickly realized it's not for me. I love working
with people, but it wasn't my thing. So for
now, I'm just going to work on finishing my
associate degree. I'll let life take its course.

Q.What made you decide to pursue a career in education?
A.I took education seriously because education was important in our
house. I knew my mom as a math teacher, as a guidance counselor
and as an administrator. I've seen her take on many roles. But for me,
I'm happy where I am.
Q.How did you wind up in The Villages?
A.I've been here since 2001. I started out at the primary center and
then my son came to The Villages High School and I started helping. I
later jumped in to help keep the program going and Mrs. Quinn and I
began working together. She and I have a great working relationship.
This program has really grown under her - the musicianship,
everything. It's been incredible. She's become a model to me.
Q.What do you like to do outside of school?
A.Not much. I sit by the pools in summer and when I'm at home, I'm
usually working on school and band. I don't have many outlets yet.
But I try to spend time with my daughter while I have her at home.
When she's out of the house, I will be moving to The Villages so I can
do all the things Villagers do! That's my goal.
