EXPERIENCE Health Intraocular Lenses Clear Vision BY THERESA CAMPBELL Pat Ferullo, 81, feels like a young gal again. She loves socializing at night with her Villages friends and doesn’t mind driving in the dark. She also loves playing golf now that she can see the flight of the ball. She credits her enthusiasm for life due to being able to see more clearly since having cataract surgery, where the fog from cataracts — the clouding and discoloration of the natural lens inside the eyes — was removed and replaced with premium intraocular lens implants which now allow her to see near, far and in-between. The best part of all is Pat no longer needs eyeglasses. “It’s like a whole new world opens to you,” said the Village of Santiago resident, who was treated by Dr. Jeffrey Baumann of Mid-Florida Eye Center. SEPTEMBER 2008 Jane Knight, 81, of the Village of Rio Grande II, was just as thrilled when she discovered she could see better after being a patient of Dr. Scot Holman of Lake Eye Associates. “I didn’t realize I had such bad eyesight,” said Jane, who had 20/50 vision before undergoing cataract surgery in May, where she received the Toric lens implant, which also corrected the astigmatism in her right eye. “And now it’s 20/20,” Jane beamed. “I couldn’t ask for anything more.” Both women praise the ophthalmologists that provided their care.
