Villager scores a hole in one during her first round of golf!
BY STEVE TRIVETT
Irene Oszip always had one standard question when husband Dan Brien returned to their Village of Hemingway home after a day at the golf course. I would always ask him ‘did you get a hole-in-one?’” Irene said with a laugh. “And his answer would always be the same.” ‘No.’” But it’s not like he hasn’t accomplished the feat before. “He had one a few years ago,” she said. And now so has Irene. The two were playing the Turtle Mound executive course together on July 19 when Irene got her first hole-inone when her 5-wood tee shot on the 87-yard eighth hole found the cup.
“It was just amazing,” she said. “Neither one of us could believe it.”
And while folks who live in The Villages rack up holes-in-one at a record rate — this past year, there were more that two aces a day across the championship and executive golf courses in Florida’s Friendliest Hometown — Irene has a lock on the most unusual of 2011. It came during her first round of golf. That’s correct; she made a hole-in-one on just the eighth hole she ever played. “I took golf lessons a long time ago,” she said. “But I decided that I really didn’t want to play the game. “But when we moved to The Villages, I thought I might as well give it a try.
