R is for Red Sox Nation
Many spirited sports fan groups speckle The
Villages, but at 1,400 members, Red Sox
Nation arguably is the largest club around,
started in 2011. It's even triple the size of the
Red Sox Nation club in Boston, president Art
Plant said. These Boston Red Sox fanatics, who
moved to The Villages from 30 states, watch
the games at local restaurants, take trips to
watch their team live and bring in a variety of
sports celebrities and memorabilia. Call Plant,

S is for Sailing
Come, sail away! Founded in 2005, the
club's 75 members enjoy sailing locally
on lakes Sumter, Miona, Harris, Fairview,
Weir and more. They usually grab lunch
afterward. They hope to attract those who
haven't sailed before to give it a try while
soaking in the fresh air and sunshine. The
club has competed in local regattas and has
cruised out of places like the St. Petersburg
Pier. Any resident with or without a boat or
sailing experience can become a member.

T is for TV Nostalgia
About 200 members watch old classics
from the 1950s and '60s like "My Little
Margie" and "The Phil Silvers Show" on
the big screen. They also play trivia and
enjoy an array of retro snacks, like Devil
Dogs and Twinkies. Stu Sachs started the
club in 2010. He ends each meeting with a
highlight film of funny outtakes. "It brings
everybody back," Sachs said. "It's just
clean fun. We just have a great time and
everybody walks out laughing." Call Stu
