1935 Ford Pickup
By Michael Fortuna or more than 17 years, Village of Bonnybrook resident Bill Horne has been turning a classic 1935 Ford pickup into a street rod. He has been president of The Villages Vintage Car Club for about a year, and he’s been with the club for about four years.
Q. What condition was the car in?
A: It was a driveable vehicle. Someone took care of it.

Q. What features does the truck have?
A: It’s got a 350-cubic-inch Chevy engine that’s been modified. It’s got all the creature comforts, power steering, power brakes, power windows. It’s got automatic transmission and air conditioning. It has two bucket seats from a 1992 Pontiac Grand Am. The aqua color is from a 1992 Ford Fiesta. We had gone to York, Pa., for three years to a street rod show, and it’d rain (each time soaking whatever was in the truck bed). (After that) I put a cover on it. I chopped three inches off the truck. The tailgate is closed; it doesn’t open. The parking lights are molded into the fenders. Older vehicles are kind of tough when you go on longer trips. I redid the suspension in the front and rear. Now you can drive 80 mph any day. I’ve driven 40,000 miles (since rebuilding it). I’ve driven it to Columbus, Ohio, Niagara Falls in Canada, and Syracuse, N.Y.

Q. Where did you find the truck?
A: I found it in a barn covered with old boxes. It was original when I found it. I built it 17 years ago up in Hightstown, N.J. I did everything but the paint and upholstery. It took me 4 1/2 years (to complete it). I had my own shop. Any free time (I had, I worked on the car). And I’m still working on it. It’s never done. You always find some way to improve it.
