BUSINESS BRIEFS RE Promise Hospital of Florida at The Villages Promise Healthcare Inc., the Boca Raton-based operator of long-term acute-care hospitals, achieved two critical milestones this past month at its new hospital in The Villages — Promise Hospital of Florida at The Villages. The community’s new 40-bed LTAC hospital not only received its state operating license, but admitted its first transfer patient a few days later from short-term acute-care neighbor The Villages Hospital. Villagers requiring long-term acute-care rehabilitation now have access to a medical facility with some of the latest in health care rehabilitation technology, said Steven Klein, the hospital’s chief executive officer. “Promise Hospital’s mission is to aid the patient with complex medical issues,” Klein said. “The patients have very complicated medical problems that require intensive therapy and longer term recovery for issues like nonhealing wounds, infectious diseases with (intravenous) antibiotics, ventilatory problems, pneumonia, respirators, tracheostomies, very complex medical issues.” The golf-cart-accessible hospital operates at 5050 County Road 472 (Rainey Trail) adjacent to the Village of Lynnhaven. “Prior to us opening, the nearest long-term acute-care hospital was located in Ocala,” Klein said. “That’s only about a 25-bed unit. Beyond that, they either had to go to Gainesville or Orlando. “So, this is the first long-term acute-care hospital in The Villages that actually is golf-cart accessible, which makes it much more accessible, friendly and convenient to the 90,000 (or so) people who reside in The Villages,” Klein added. First Watch Seating was at a premium almost the minute that First Watch, the daytime cafe, opened last month in Spanish Plaines Plaza Shopping Center. Wait times gradually increased by the day as Villagers discovered breakfast and lunch menus that feature some of the freshest available omelets, wraps, crepes, pancakes, mixed salads, soups and a variety of specialty sandwiches. Speak up, if you like. The Bradenton-based chain of restaurants even encourages custom entrées. Health-conscious customers get considerable attention, too. The restaurant will substitute cholesterol-free eggs or egg whites at no additional charge. But don’t wait too long in the day to dine at this restaurant on the north side of the Publix Super Markets store. The restaurant chain operates only from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily. It’s open 333 days a year; closing on Thanksgiving and Christmas. For information, call 633-1520. Years ago, the Bradenton company targeted The Villages for expansion, Chris Tomasso, the Bradenton company’s chief marketing officer, said. Then the company reached a franchise agreement with Minnesota franchise operator Joe Cody, who picked The Villages for the first of a threeto-five cafe development deal. Guest response to the new eatery in The Villages has pleased Tomasso. “We’ve been welcomed with open arms,” Tomasso said. “And we’re getting great feedback from the Villagers.” Most of the guests rave not only about the fresh food but the service, as well, cafe general manager Cherie Moore said. “It’s been fantastic,” Moore said. “We’ve received excellent comments from the customers about service and food.” OCTOBER 2011
