Michele Brady feels fortunate to be a
14-year breast cancer survivor. When
undergoing treatment in Maryland, she
was grateful to have American Cancer
Society resources.
"I received a wig and it made me feel
normal again," Brady said. "The Look
Good Feel Better Program provided me
with over $200 worth of makeup and
many tips on skin care, penciling in
my eyebrows, wig care and how to use
scarves and turbans. It was wonderful to
do the sessions with ladies who also were
going through treatment and understood
how difficult it is to lose your hair. The
sessions are so much fun. The ladies come
in looking defeated, but they leave with
smiles on their faces."
Brady is now a volunteer for the LGFB
program, and she recommends women
with breast cancer take advantage of the
many resources available through the ACS
website.
"People can get rides to treatment
through the Road to Recovery, and support from breast cancer survivors through
the Reach to Recovery program. Hope
Lodges provides overnight housing for patients who need treatment far from home."

Staff and students at The Villages Charter School go
pink along with the rest of the community in October. The
participation helps raise awareness among the younger
generation and is meaningful to those battling breast
cancer or standing by a loved one who has been diagnosed.
"We will be wearing our traditional pink ribbon on the
back of our helmets again this year," said Richard Pettus,

coach. "We'll also have the pink ribbon painted on the
football field."
