Austin GDC Program Guide 2008 - (Page 4) 2008 CONFE RENCE OVER VIEW & ADVISORY BOARD Austin GDC 2008 The Austin Game Developers Conference offers a unique program designed for developers of online games, audio professionals, and game writers looking to learn about the latest tools and techniques in online game development, while providing a laid back atmosphere that lends itself to the exchange of ideas among creative minds. This year, the advisory board set out to develop a comprehensive program consisting of more than 100 lectures, panels, and roundtable discussions taught by industry experts in their field. The goal was to highlight the most prevalent issues surrounding online game development in order to provide the necessary knowledge to help you succeed in this ever changing landscape. The session line-up brings you the most in-depth presentations focusing on: creative design; marketing and production; monetization, microtransaction and free-to-play business models; the legal nuts & bolts on license/content agreements; the intersection of virtual worlds and social networks; changing practices for the new demographic, kids, casual players; community management; scaling and managing user created content; networking technologies and best practices; database and server scaling; next-gen audio; the future of storytelling, and more! Plus, you can participate in lively discussions with peers in our roundtable sessions. The Austin GDC faculty goes through a rigorous submission process and spends several hours preparing for their sessions. We sincerely hope that you find the information relevant, timely, and valuable enough to apply to your day-to-day understanding of game development. Our ultimate goal is to not only inspire you, but to fuel your passions in order to create better games! It’s a simple equation: developers, publishers, indies, filmmakers, musicians, and academia under one roof equals one truly creative hotbed. Enjoy the conference!
