Continued on page 10 Supply Chain Market Set for Growth in Troubled Economy NUMBERS The outlook for the supply chain management applications market remains positive, despite — or possibly because of — current economic challenges, according to an AMR Research report. The SCM segment maintained its growth rate of 7% in 2007, and the research firm forecasts steady growth to $9.2 billion in 2012. AMR predicts a “high likelihood the economic challenges of the coming years will offer greater opportunities for supply chain technology adoption.” Supply chain and related technologies will play a key role in helping companies “deal and thrive in an economy that is going to be quite unlike anything we’ve seen in the post-war era,” AMR says. Among the growth drivers will be a strong replacement market for legacy applications and as yet lightly penetrated geographical regions, such as Eastern Europe, Russia, and the Asia-Pacific market. Also, AMR notes, Brazil is ripe for supply chain investment. In addition, more mid-market companies will invest in SCM. AMR further notes that a global recession, which appears to be upon us, will slow decision making and will be felt 12 to 18 months out.
