The company was formed in 2003 to commercialize the technology. At the heart of the system is the SenQC software, which processes information from microphones and other data acquisition equipment. Acoustic holography works by providing 3D images of sounds by mathematically analyzing elements, such as pressure, particle velocity, intensity, and sound power, the characteristics commonly used to measure and understand sound as a physical phenomenon, Mazza said. The system focuses only on sound emitted from the object being tested, filtering out other signals from environmental noise. The software then helps manufacturers determine whether an object is operating too loudly in general, or it identifies the presence of specific defects based on pre-determined acoustic signatures. “The Alliances, Executive Appointments, Mergers & Acquisitions, Products Transform your business through technology Microsoft, now deliver over the Internet. Anticipating that the model will only gain traction in the coming years, IBM wants to position itself as a cornerstone provider. The company is particularly interested in the automation of these vast and virtualized data centers. When dealing with thousands of servers and hundreds of thousands of virtual servers, Ellis said, “automation becomes a must-have. It goes beyond the human capacity to be able to deal with the level of change and the rate of change.” Which is where the young minds at Ohio State and Georgia Tech can help — as long as they don’t get lost in the clouds. — Chris Chiappinelli GETTING NOISE IN PRODUCTION UNDER CONTROL FREE Membership includes: • Award Winning Editorial • Web Exclusive Articles • Whitepapers & Webcasts • Improved Online Tools and Expert Forums • Product Comparison Engine • Targeted Newsletters • Special discounts for Executive Conferences • My “MA” which allows you to save products, comparisons and more Sign Up Today at: MANAGINGAUTOMATION.COM anufacturers looking for a quick way to perform in-line pass/fail acoustic tests have a new option called SenQC, a software-based quality control system suited for use across a range of industries. SenQC, offered by Detroit-based SenSound, LLC, works by filtering out environmental noise during assembly line acoustic quality control or non-contact defect detection testing without the need for a separate sound chamber, potentially saving manufacturers of sound-emitting products or components time as well as equipment and maintenance costs. “Typically, when you’re trying to measure M UPCOMING Continuous Process Improvement Symposium May 13-15, 2008 Weber State University Ogden, UT www.cpi-symposiums.com Manufacturing IT Forum: Connecting IT and Automation May 20-21, 2008 Wyndham Cleveland @ Playhouse Square Cleveland, Ohio www.isa.org/mfgit Orchestrating the Business: 2008 & Beyond — MA’s 4th Annual Progressive Manufacturing Summit June 10-12, 2008 The Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas, NV www.managingautomation.com/maonline/summit/ EVENTS Honeywell’s 2008 Americas Users Group Symposium June 15-19, 2008 Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa, Phoenix www.honeywell.com/ps/hug Competitive Manufacturers Conference June 17-19, 2008 Chicago Marriott Schaumburg Schaumburg, IL www.sme.org European PLM Summit June 23-25, 2008 Diagora Espace de Congres et d’Exposition Toulouse, France www.plmsummit.com PLM Road Map 2008 Sept. 23-24, 2008 The Inn at St. John’s, Plymouth, MI www.cpd-associates.com Request Information Directly from Vendors you choose http://managingautomation.com http://managingautomation.com http://www.honeywell.com/ps/hug http://www.cpi-symposiums.com http://www.sme.org http://MANAGINGAUTOMATION.COM http://www.isa.org/mfgit http://www.plmsummit.com http://www.managingautomation.com/maonline/summit/ http://www.cpd-associates.com
