He will specifically address the following: • Integrated Manufacturing Operations and what it means • Recent paradigm shift in manufacturing applications • Factors driving the need for more integrated applications in manufacturing and how they vary by industry • How integrated manufacturing operations fit into overall PLM picture Title: ACCELERATE BUSINESS PERFORMANCE GAINS WITH MANUFACTURING EXECUTION SYSTEMS Download: managingautomation.com/visiprise5 Summary: To stay competitive in the face of intense external pressures, discrete manufacturing companies must make radical internal improvements. Even companies that have succeeded with enterprise applications, Six Sigma methods or the pure process improvements of Lean, Demand Flow, Total Quality need to do more today. The key to improved performance is not only inside the company, it’s within the four walls of the factory: accurate and timely production information. Yet, most assembly plants lack manufacturing operations information systems. As a result, they have no way to ensure rapid changes, stay synchronized with the market, enforce best practices, and pinpoint the sources of problems. Complying with regulations is costly and time-consuming. And ERP systems are not delivering high returns because their assumptions are not based on reliable, real-time plant data. A Manufacturing Execution System (MES) can do all of those things. “A Manufacturing Execution System (MES) is a dynamic information system that drives effective execution of manufacturing operations. Using current and accurate data, MES guides, triggers, and reports on plant activities as events occur from point of order release into manufacturing to point of product delivery into finished goods” according to Manufacturing Enterprise Solutions Association International (MESA).
