Early this year, AMR surveyed 411 IT and business leaders in China, Europe, and the United States about their BI and performance management spending plans. Among U.S. respondents, BI and analytics infrastructure products are expected to achieve double-digit increases this year — 11% and 11.8%, respectively — while spending for planning, budgeting, and forecasting products will decline 9.5%, a slide that AMR said it had not anticipated, given interest generated by market consolidation moves. Looking ahead to 2009, 84% of the buyers worldwide said their BI/PM spending would increase or stay the same. Only 9% of respondents foresaw a decline in spending. Given that outlook, AMR predicted sustained BI/PM spending growth through 2012.
