Managing Automation - November 2008 - (Page 17) news managingautomation.com maonline Go online for daily news updates in perspective company’s recent Intercim Live North American customer conference in Seattle, Todd said that the merger with Paris-based Pertinence transformed Intercim from a small MES software provider focused mainly on North American aerospace/defense and automotive markets into a global vendor with a new focus on integrating plant operations with supply chain, product design, and other processes. As part of the organizational integration, 100-employee Intercim has implemented a dual headquarters setup, with Todd running the overall company and former Pertinence CEO Amelie Faure taking on the role of European CEO. “We are pleased with the progress we’ve made from an organizational point of view,” Todd said. “We are now focused on enhancing collaboration between our manufacturing clients and their supply chains, and the software is the tool to help them realize that enhanced collaboration.” Intercim’s next step, he said, will be to build tighter integration between Intercim’s manufacturing planning and execution systems and Pertinence’s manufacturing intelligence systems. In March, Intercim announced the Pertinence Suite Powered by Velocity, a release that provided loose integration of the two companies’ products using Microsoft’s .NET servicesoriented technology. The next release, Todd said, will provide tighter integration through a shared data model and will also feature a common look and feel as well as a common licensing model. At the same time, Intercim is pushing to integrate its manufacturing operations management suite much more closely with PLM and plant floor systems. In June, the company announced the expansion of an integration partnership with PLM software provider Dassault Systèmes that will enable users of Dassault software, such as its Catia CAD system, to view as-built manufacturing information directly from CAD drawings. The integration with Dassault’s V6 suite is expected to be completed next year. So far, Intercim and Dassault have launched development of three new products that will exploit the integration, Todd said. Another five are in the design phase. One of the products currently in development, said Romain LaVault, vice president of sales and business development at Intercim, will focus on plant floor-to-CAD integration. — J.M. Alliances, Executive Appointments, Mergers & Acquisitions, Products range of process measurement transmitters and gateways, the Asset Management Suite (AMS) of predictive maintenance and Wireless Snap-On software, the 375 Field Communicator, and wireless interfaces for the DeltaV and Ovation digital systems. Upcoming releases that will support the standard include a valve position transmitter and a Smart Wireless THUM Adapter for accessing stranded diagnostics in legacy equipment, Emerson said. John Berra In kicking off the conference, Emerson Chairman John Berra predicted that wireless technology will serve to “move the whole cause of automation ahead.” In his keynote, he lauded the company’s performance in the past year, noting that sales were up 18% after the first three quarters, with growth of more than $1 billion expected over the year, pending results from the fourth quarter, which ended Oct. 1. In addition, the company added 1,200 salaried and 1,500 hourly workers during the year, while maintaining its 12% average annual increase in R&D. Berra, who handed over day-to-day management of Emerson to Steven Sonnenberg as of Oct. 1, has taken on the role of chairman in order to focus on strategic planning, technology, and key customer relationships. — Diane Himes MERGER COMPLETE, INTERCIM FOCUSES ON COLLABORATION ighteen months after helping to engineer the merger of manufacturing execution system software provider Intercim Inc. and manufacturing intelligence software purveyor Pertinence SA, Intercim President and CEO John Todd said the companies have completed the marriage of their two organizations John Todd and are now working to create tighter integration between their product lines.
