The total included more than $174 million through donor advised funds and $8 million from the community foundation’s endowment. This is a slight increase over the combined grantmaking total of parent foundations Community Foundation Silicon Valley and Peninsula Community Foundation in 2006. An additional $60 million in grantmaking came through corporate, nonprofit and supporting organization funds. Altogether, this work shows a commitment to meeting challenges not only in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties, but also nationally and globally, says Ellen Clear, vice president of grantmaking. “These grants represent an exceptional milestone for our first year.” Briefs Encounters How can we make our region a better place to live, work and thrive?
