Clinical Advancements in Angiographic Imaging - (Page 10) Springhill Medical Center A Partnership to Improve Patient Safety Against the backdrop of U.S. governmentmandated cuts in healthcare reimbursements, an increasing number of healthcare providers and insurers are facing the difficult task of maintaining profitability without sacrificing patient care. Adding to the challenge is the recent U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) public health advisory against the use of gadolinium-based contrast for magnetic resonance angiography (MRA). The use of gadolinium has raised significant patient safety concerns for healthcare providers, and has restricted the use of the potentially life-saving MRA procedure for the detection of peripheral vascular disease – a disease that affects more than 10 million people in the United States. As a result, healthcare providers are now forced to consider an array of new information – from the adoption of safe, non-contrast MRA techniques to a host of other fast-evolving issues than can impact the quality of patient care and the organization’s overall fi nancial health. In the face of these challenges, Springhill Medical Center stands as a model of tradition and excellence dedicated to new innovations that improve patient care and service to its community. Located in the saltwater port city of Mobile, Alabama, in the heart of the American South, Springhill is a 252-bed, family-owned business competing with four other institutional and university hospitals, which collectively serve more than 400,000 local residents. Although comparatively small in size, Springhill leads the market by offering comprehensive heart and vascular medical care in a distinctively family-oriented environment. 10 Oc tober 2 0 0 7 A public ation produced by Toshiba Medic al Sys t ems
