(NASDAQ:CSTR) will reset and optimize Wal-Mart store entrances according to a new agreement. Coinstar will also add new product offerings to enhance the customer experience at the front of the store. The company said that the expansion of Coinstar Centers in Wal-Mart represents a transition out of the test phase into a strategic roll-out. The announcement said that Wal-Mart also intents to have over 3,000 Redbox DVD rental kiosks in the United States over the next 12-18 months. Redbox is currently installed in over 800 Wal-Mart stores, and Coinstar coin-counting machines (Coinstar Centers) are installed in over 400 Wal-Mart stores in the United States, according to the announcement. “We are very excited to expand our relationship with Wal-Mart,” said Dave Cole, Chief Executive Officer at Coinstar, Inc. “In teaming with WalMart to develop concepts for resetting store entrances, we believe we create a win-win situation. Wal-Mart enhances convenience at the front of the store while providing consumers with a positive experience, and for Coinstar, we have the opportunity to further our relationship with Wal-Mart.” Coinstar Centers and Redbox DVD rental kiosks are services that Coinstar said meets the needs of busy consumers. Coinstar Centers are self-service coin counting machines that allow consumers to turn loose change into cash. Redbox DVD kiosks provide the latest movie releases at $1 per night, plus tax. (www.coinstar.com) NRF Battles Retail Crime Nineteen More Join LERPnet Program WASHINGTON, DC (February 28, 2008) The National Retail Federation has been working with local and state law enforcement agencies to help stem retail crime. NRF’s Loss Prevention Council has begun a series of meetings designed to connect loss prevention executives with their local law enforcement agencies to discuss issues currently plaguing the retail industry and ways to combat the growing problem of organized retail crime. NRF-Investigator’s Network Meetings in the New York City, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle and Miami are scheduled to take place in the next few months. “Through networking and great partnerships, retail loss prevention executives can now share retail crime struggles with local law enforcement agencies,” said NRF Vice President of Loss Prevention Joseph LaRocca. “We look forward to building new relationships in this new endeavor to educate the world about organized retail crime and its effect on innocent consumers and the industry as a whole.” In addition to NRF’s outreach programs, 19 companies have joined the Law Enforcement Partnership Network since the summer of 2007. LERPnet was launched in April of 2007 in partnership with the FBI, the Retail Industry Leaders Association and the Food Marketing Institute. The program is designed to bring local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and retailers together through its information-sharing and crime-tracking capabilities. LERPnet now has 56 members representing more than 84,000 stores worldwide which have $877 billion in total sales. The database has tracked more than 19,100 incidents. The latest additions to LERPnet include: • Aeropostale Meta and MoneyGram Partner MoneyGram Retailers to Accept Meta Reload MINNEAPOLIS, MN (March 3, 2008) MoneyGram Payment Products, a division of MoneyGram International, Inc. (NYSE:MGI), has agreed to allow Meta Payment Systems customers to reload their prepaid debit cards via MoneyGram’s retail agent network. The agreement will allow Meta customers to do reloads at MoneyGram’s 30,000 US locations, which includes all Wal-Mart and Albertsons stores. “The agreement with Meta Payment Systems helps to establish MoneyGram’s presence in the prepaid arena and reinforces our commitment to providing secure, convenient and reliable payment options,” said Tim Summers, general manager and vice president of Payment Products at MoneyGram. “Our agreement with MoneyGram allows our customers to leverage MoneyGram’s extensive and powerful retail network,” said Brad Hanson, CEO of Meta Payment Systems. “We are pleased to include MoneyGram as part of our select group of strategic partners to grow our business and deliver successful prepaid programs to market.” Meta Payment Systems is a division of MetaBank, which offers card issuing and program support to banks, processors, and third-party distributors seeking to develop, market and manage stored-value cards.
