The service will allowing callers there and in over 30 other countries to place free long distance, international and group conference calls from any phone, using any network. Talkster launched the new service in Mexico in time for Cinco de Mayo. “Talkster is continuously expanding our service area to cover the globe and to meet the demand for cheaper international, group and long distance calls,” said James Wanless, Talkster cofounder and COO. With Talkster, callers listen to a brief 10-second audio advertisement and then can talk as long as they like without interruptions, for the cost of a single local call. “Today in the United States, calling card services have been addressing an ever-increasing need for affordable calling to and from Mexico,” adds Wanless. “But the Talkster service differs from using a calling card in two important ways: first, our service is far easier to use from any phone without having to go out and buy a card, and second, Talkster’s Free World Dialing is always free, with no hidden charges. We don’t ever ask for a credit card number.” Source: Talkster (www.talkster.com) Former IDT Employee Wins $10.5 Million IDT To Appeal Verdict BOSTON, MA (April 23, 2008) A former IDT employee won a $10.5 million jury verdict against IDT Corporation (NYSE: IDT) on April 18, 2008. After a three-week trial, a New Jersey jury found that IDT had breached a handwritten contract that its Chairman, Howard Jonas, drafted and signed while recruiting Alfred West, a telecommunications entrepreneur from Brooklyn, New York. The jury also found that IDT violated its duty of good faith and fair dealing. IDT said this was the second time a trial has been held on the West matter. A judge dismissed the contract claim several years ago, but a trial on the related claims in 2005 resulted in a $1.5 million jury award for West, according to IDT. That award was set aside by the trial judge as being unsupported by the evidence, according to an IDT press release. IDT said that West appealed that decision and an appellate court reinstated West’s breach of contract claim, which led to the second trial that concluded last week. Barry Pollack, a partner in Sullivan & Worcester LLP Boston office who represented West, said, “The verdict confirms that, whether on a slip of paper or in an 80-page contract, the words ‘this is binding’ mean ‘this is binding.’” On April 24, IDT announced that it will take legal steps to reverse the award to the former Calling Cards in Brief RateIntegration, a provider of advanced rating solutions for service providers, has announced the selection and successful implementation of its Advanced Rating Server (ARS 3.0) software by iBasis, an international long distance carrier and a provider of retail prepaid calling services and enhanced services for mobile operators. iBasis selected RateIntegration to provide a comprehensive real-time rating and margin analysis solution that leverages iBasis’ existing business support systems. iBasis will use RateIntegration’s ARS 3.0 solution to support customer and partner billing and settlement processes for over 4,000 carriercustomers and vendors throughout the world.
