The Prepaid Press - October 15, 2008 - (Page 19) PAYMENTS October 15 · 2008 - 19 Hypercom Increases Multilane Team Creates New Business Unit SCOTTSDALE, AZ (September 30, 2008) Hypercom Corporation (NYSE:HYC) has appointed Lloyd Baylard as Vice President and General Manager, Multilane Products, and Rod Hometh as Senior Vice President and General Manager, Modular Payments Business Unit. Baylard, formerly Vice President of Ingenico Groupe’s Retail Solutions in the United States, will lead Hypercom’s multilane sales in The Americas. He takes over for Hometh, who is now responsible for building a business unit to drive sales of modular products to the unattended market in The Americas. Both appointments are effective immediately and report to Heidi Goff, President and Managing Director, The Americas, Hypercom Corporation. “Lloyd Baylard and Rod Hometh are two highly seasoned and accomplished executives who significantly strengthen our team and help build on our global competitive positioning,” said Goff. “Lloyd’s expertise, know how and skill will enhance our growing presence and drive for market share in multilane. Rod’s successful management and growth of our ISO, key accounts and multilane businesses well position him to spearhead our drive to open new revenue streams in the burgeoning arena of unattended electronic payments.” Baylard brings to Hypercom more than 20 years of sales and management experience in multilane point of sale and payment transactions. During his 15 years with Ingenico, Baylard led that company to a top position in the multilane market in the U.S. where he was instrumental in directing and driving sales to the Top 100 and middle tier retailers. Prior to that and following Ingenico Groupe’s acquisition of Georgia-based Ingenico, Inc. in 2001, Baylard oversaw the integration of the retail lines of business and assisted in consolidating manufacturing, engineering and service. Previously, as Vice President of Sales, he was the chief sales officer and chief negotiator of agreements with the majority of the company’s large retail customers. Hometh has more than 26 years of expertise in the electronic payment and telecommunications industries. For the last nine years he has held progressively senior positions at Hypercom where he directed and expanded the Company’s efforts with Independent Sales Organization (ISO) and managed key global accounts. As Senior Vice President, Multilane Sales, Hometh was responsible for directing and driving sales of the Company’s Optimum product line to top U.S. retailers. Prepaid Resources utilizes these independently licensed technologies to develop managed applications for deployment to its program manager member network. “PORTABLES adds technology to the personal services, program opportunities and educational webinars which support our extensive provider network,” says Barry J. Kessler, chief executive officer of Prepaid Resources. “These offerings can really help program managers deliver topnotch prepaid services cost-effectively and efficiently.” Highlighting the launch of PORTABLES is the introduction of Prepaid Resources’ patent pending Automated Federal Benefit Enrollment Service that program managers can integrate into their existing program offerings. The auto-enrollment electronically directs the US Treasury to deposit recipients’ future social security, veterans, civil service and railroad retirement benefits for deposit into their designated prepaid debit card account. This service, according to Prepaid Resources, replaces timely and errorprone manual enrollment with automation that accelerates loading, reduces cardholder attrition and increases cardholder satisfaction. At Prepaid Resources’ notification, the US Treasury will initiate the direct deposit of cardholder benefit entitlements to any bank relationship that the program manager may designate. This portability gives program managers maximum control of their direct deposit relationship, utilizing a standard process that can be deployed across multiple processor and issuer relationships. Prepaid Resources provides program managers with full service support including customized files transfer windows, enrollment transmissions, issue resolution and seamless operational integration into existing cardholder registration, communications and customer service processes. PORTABLES is the fourth offering of Prepaid Resources providing a complement to the company’s existing service suite that includes CONNECTIONS, PEARLS and INDUSTRY INSIGHTS. CGAP CEO Elizabeth Littlefield will announce the plan at the Clinton Global Initiative’s “Mobile Banking Call to Action.” “The brick and mortar bank branch system can only go so far. With cell phone service and a local shop handling the cash, mobile banking can reach every village and barrio in the developing world,” said Littlefield. “Technology can enable us to reach millions of poor people who, until now, have been left out of the formal financial system,” she added. The commitment builds on more than five years of work on mobile banking and microfinance. In that time CGAP says it has advised and shaped projects with a dozen providers in Asia, Africa and Latin America and conducted indepth policy assessments in 10 countries. From this, CGAP has published a series of white papers focusing on business models, client needs, and regulatory conditions. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has co-funded this work since 2006. “We’re optimistic and energized to tackle the challenges and unleash mobile banking’s potential to transform lives. That means better understanding what poor clients need and want, helping regulators balance consumer protection with innovation, and working with phone companies and banks to create viable business models,” said Littlefield. Addressing these issues, CGAP is making a commitment to fund and advise microfinance groups, banks, and mobile phone providers with $10 million to find business models that succeed, researching the needs of poor and vulnerable people for a range of services, especially savings, and engaging telecom and banking regulators throughout the developing world. Focus countries include: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Brazil, DR Congo, Ecuador, Egypt, Ghana, India, Kenya, Maldives, Mexico, Mongolia, Pakistan, Philippines, Russia, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.
