Services such as MPLS have matured and are widely deployed. Ethernet-based services continue to emerge, with a significant and on-going debate as to how to deliver these services, and how service providers can transform their existing SONET/SDH infrastructures to best support the growing options for Ethernet both in the MAN and the WAN. In addition, wireless technologies based on new standards such as WiMax are emerging, and integrating with fixed-line services to support fixed-mobile convergence. Finally, service providers are increasingly working to deliver converged services, capable of supporting voice, video and data over a shared infrastructure. Enterprises must navigate an increasingly complex sea of service options service level agreements, service providers, and management options. They must also evaluate private services in light of the emergence of Internetbased VPNs, and net neutrality issues. Enterprises must not only ensure they deploy the “right” service, that can meet applications requirements such as voice and real-time data exchange. Above all, they must ensure they get what they are paying for. Service providers must ensure efficient management of their infrastructures today, while positioning themselves to support emerging service delivery models such as combined voice, video, and Internet. With these trends in mind we bring you “FutureNet: MPLS, VPLS and Beyond,” the evolution of MPLScon, designed to broaden the scope and coverage of transport technologies and services beyond just MPLS. FutureNet is designed to bring clarity to the challenge of deploying and managing transport services and technologies from both enterprise and service provider perspectives. In addition, we’ll examine the future of rich media applications and services. As in past years, FutureNet brings together many of the world’s leading carriers, services and solutions providers, vendors and enterprises to sort through the various approaches, discover the benefits and challenges in the marketplace, and allow enterprises to have a single forum for understanding the impact of the changing services landscape . Once again FutureNet will provide examples of how real networks are being constructed to meet service requirements, attendees will see sample case studies of real-world MPLS and VPLS deployments, and they will learn about the future technologies and trends that will impact their environments. Additionally, they will come to grips with the challenges that have faced recent deployments such as interoperability and management. Finally, they will gain greater insight into the issues that will impact them in the future. Our conference program this Spring starts with concurrent tutorials on MPLS fundamentals and Ethernet service trends delivered by Cisco and the MFA Alliance. The general conference begins with our opening keynote by Verizon’s Dr. Stuart Elby, covering trends in the transport services landscape. From there, we’ll focus on the evolution of services such as MPLS and VPLS and the debate over emerging Ethernet transport standards. Finally we’ll wrap up day two with our famous “Beer & Pizza Shoot-out” entitled “Ethernet is the Answer, What is the Question” Day three takes us into discussions on network futures, including WiMax and fixed-mobile conversion, IMS, and Security, with the goal being to provide attendees with the information they need to make decisions about competing technology approaches and alternatives. Finally, we spend day four looking at management and service delivery issues from both carrier and enterprise perspectives. This year’s conference shifts to the center of New York City, mid-town, the business capital of the world. It is our goal to continue the focus on fostering discussion among attendees that will provide a view into not only the opportunities, successes and challenges for enterprise and service provider networks and also into the issues that line the road ahead.
