Shared Ownership Investment Conference (SOIC) News
ARDA President Howard Nusbaum provided
results from "2015 State of the Industry, United
States" research. Using 2014 data gathered by the
ARDA International Foundation from timeshare
resorts, developers and management companies,
the Ernst & Young Global Limited study found there
was a significant uptick in construction last year,
which is a promising note. Last year developers
purpose-built 1,312 units, as compared to 2013's
667. The latest statistics show there to be 1,555
timeshare resorts representing a total of approximately 198,490 timeshare units.
How about this fact: the weighted average maintenance fee charged per interval is $880 and yet,
maintenance fee delinquencies fell by approximately 8 percent. And more interesting news: among
developers consulted several said they will open
three new resorts this year and another six in 2016.
99.9 percent of the discussion during SOIC revolved around dealing with millennials. Keynote
speaker David Stillman, a renowned generational
expert, author of When Generations Collide: Who
They Are. Why They Clash. How to Solve the
Generational Puzzle at Work (HarperBusiness) and
co-author of The M-Factor: How the Millennial Generation Is Rocking the Workplace (HarperCollins),
explained how to attract and sell to the 25-to-35year-old.
The idea that millennials (those 18 to 35 years
of age), who are currently considered to be an
impenetrable market, might be evolving into
prospective customers was echoed by Peter
Yesawich, a nationally recognized thought
leader on emerging travel trends and vice
chairman of MMGY Global.

buyers tick and how to answer their needs.
