If you check our Web site, you will find new announcements such as who the newly elected IAFP Secretary is and the list of 2012 Award Recipients. The IAFP Web site can provide this information to Members much faster than our print publications and even quicker than our electronic newsletter, the IAFP Report. You might want to make a habit of regularly checking the IAFP Web site in order to keep up-todate with IAFP announcements and events. As an example, did you know that we have redesigned our pages for the Annual Meeting? By clicking on “IAFP Annual Meeting” under the “Events/Meetings” dropdown, you will discover the new format for IAFP 2012. We hope you will agree that the information is much easier to locate under the new layout! While you are there looking it over, be sure to get registered for the “world’s leading food safety conference” and don’t forget to make your hotel reservations! You might not realize it, but with four months to go until IAFP 2012 begins, our hotel room block is more than 50% sold out! Reserve your room now – do not delay!!! By the beginning of April, the announcement of our newly elected IAFP Secretary will be posted on our Web site. Alejandro Mazzotta from Campbell Soup Company and Peter Slade from Maple Leaf Foods agreed to stand for election. By the time you read this issue, one of the two will have been elected. Both are very well qualified to take this position “COMMENTARY” A By DAVID W. THARP, CAE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR “PDGs are open to everyone for involvement” on the IAFP Executive Board and upon conclusion of the election, we will post the announcement. Whichever of the two is elected, we know they will make a strong addition to the Executive Board. We also know that whoever is not elected will continue to support IAFP through their active involvement going forward. From the Annual Meeting page, you will also be able to access our Committee and Professional Development Group (PDG) meeting schedule. The meetings take place on Saturday and Sunday prior to the Opening Session on Sunday evening. One item that seems to confuse some Members is whether they are “allowed” to participate in Committee or PDGs without being a “Member” of these groups. The answer is yes! All Members are welcome to attend these meetings. PDGs are open to everyone for involvement, whereas the Committe e s d o h ave ap p o i n t e d Members (in most cases). The important fact to remember is that everyone can attend these meetings – even Committee meetings. If a vote is called for at a Committee meeting, only appointed Committee Members may vote, but anyone can participate beyond this point. The Annual Meeting Web page also contains important information about the program. You will be able to search for topics of interest and find presentations you want to attend. You can also make a schedule to help direct you during your days in Providence so you don’t miss important sessions or presentations. Earlier I mentioned the announcement of Award Recipients. This listing, containing recipient names, will become available on the Web site later in April. Be sure to take a look to see who will receive the Black Pearl Award, the Fellows Award, Honorary Life Membership and many other well-deserved recognitions.
