MINUTES OF THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION MINUTES OF THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR FOOD PROTECTION FOR FOOD PROTECTION 2013 Annual Business Meeting 2013 Annual Business Meeting July 30, 2013 Charlotte,30, 2013 July North Carolina Charlotte, North Carolina Call to Order The Annual Business Meeting of the International Association for Food Protection was called to order at 12:20 p.m. at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. A quorum was present as defined by the IAFP Constitution. With the approval of the Executive Board, President Swanson appointed Randy Daggs as Parliamentarian for the Business Meeting. Minutes Minutes from the 2012 Annual Business Meeting which were published in the October 2012 issue of Food Protection Trends were presented and approved. President's Report President Swanson reported the association is in good shape and talked about the vision of the new strategic plan which focuses on three major goals: Recruitment and Engagement, Information Exchange, and Resources and Foundation. Under Recruitment and Engagement, she indicated membership has increased to 3,900 members; the Board is looking to expand the speaker pool for Affiliate meetings, to develop and support future food safety leaders through strong support of the Student PDG and to encourage PDG activities. Increased Information Exchange can be accomplished through webinars, International outreach, maintaining the value of the annual meeting, expanding electronic and information exchange and making changes to FPT. She invited members to submit articles. Resources and Foundation can be accomplished through engagement, training and retention of staff, expanding the impact of the Foundation and cultivating revenue sources for the general fund. President Swanson concluded her report by presenting the Presidential Recognition Awards to ten individuals who worked hard on the changes made to Food Protection Trends. Awards were presented to Michelle Danyluk, Richelle Beverly, Kelly Stevens, Pat Rule, Manpreet Singh, Walid Alali, Angela Fraser, Andy Hwang, David Golden and Ben Chapman. Affiliate Council Report Tori Stivers reported that were 39 in attendance at the meeting with 25 affiliates represented. No new affiliate charters were given, eight affiliates used the speaker program last year and Turonda Crumpler was elected as the new Affiliate Council Secretary. Four Affiliate Awards were presented at the meeting: Affiliate Membership Achievement and Affiliate Communications Materials - British Columbia Food Protection Association, 430 FOOD PROTECTION TRENDS NOVEMBER-DECEMBER 2013 Affiliate Member Education - Taiwan Association for Food Protection Association and Best Affiliate Overall Meeting - Florida Association for Food Protection. Executive Director's Report David Tharp reported the Association had another successful year. Annual meeting attendance reached an all-time high of over 2,800 attendees and record exhibitors. This overwhelming growth presents challenges for planning future meetings. The European Symposium on Food Safety was held in Marseilles, France in May 2013. The next European Symposium will be in Budapest, Hungary in May 2014. Other upcoming meetings will be the Asia Pacific International Conference on Food Safety, October 29 - November 1, 2013, in Taipei, Taiwan; the China International Food Safety and Quality Conference, November 6 - 7, 2013 and the Dubai International Food Safety Conference, November 17 - 19, 2013. We continue to see an increase in Membership from the regions where we have held or been involved with international meetings. David reported that free Wi-Fi service is available on the meeting level in the Convention Center, a meeting app is available and lunch will be provided on Wednesday in the poster area. He indicated we are open to input from attendees. He reported the General Fund balance for fiscal year ending August 31, 2012 was $1,004,937 which is an alltime record. This increase over the previous year was due to success at last year's Annual Meeting, the European Symposium in Warsaw and growth in Membership and Sustaining Membership. Sponsorship has also been very important. He noted that 2013 is targeted to end in good financial condition. David thanked the IAFP Staff, the Executive Board and all IAFP Members for their efforts this past year. Bylaws Amendment Kathy Glass presented four proposed amendments to the bylaws. 1. Article II, Section C.1, 2, & 3: recommend to accept as proposed. Motion by Anna Lammerding, seconded by Bob Sanders, approved. 2. Article VI, Section B.1.1., Special Committees (3-A CSP): recommend to accept revisions as proposed except for removal of "3-A" in description Committee for Sanitary Procedures. Motion by Allen Sayler, seconded by Trish Wester, approved.
