TECHNOLOGY PREVIEWS CT Scanning Technology Drills Deep for Accuracy, Ease-of-Use High slice-count CT scanners were the talk of last year’s RSNA show ﬂoor. The buzz continues this year, perhaps just a tad more quietly. Yet, there will be no shortage of demonstrations of CT scanners; look for the exhibit ﬂoor to be replete with software upgrades and additional equipment that will pump up CT’s scanning capabilities. GE LightSpeed CT750 HD Meta Imaging Solutions’ Chrysalis Breast Displacement System NeuroLogica’s CereTom 8-slice CT scanner Bracco (Booth 2845) is broadening its footprint in the radiology environment as it unveils its new expanded product portfolio. The company is showcasing Gastrograﬁn (diatrizoate meglumine and diatrizoate sodium solution USP), a palatable lemonavored, water-soluble iodinated radiopaque contrast medium for oral or rectal administration used for radiographic examination of segments of the gastrointestinal tract and as an adjunct to contrast enhancement in CT of the torso. Also being highlighted is Isovue (iopamidol injection), a safe and effective nonionic contrast medium indicated for a variety of radiological procedures. Cone Instruments (Booth 3211) is introducing the Accu-Right CT scanning orientation device, a fail-safe method of labeling the right side of CT images. The Accu-Right CT marker, which is placed adjacent to the patient prior to obtaining the CT scan, consists of a 3D radiopaque tubular structure that has the proﬁle of the letter “R,” so that when scanned in cross section, a 2D “R” symbol is created within the CT images. Covidien (Booth 9113) is featuring its contrast delivery system with radio-frequency identiﬁcation (RFID) technology. The system combines its unit-dose RFID-enabled Ultraject preﬁlled contrast media syringes with its RFID-enabled Optivantage DH power injector. The system creates an interface that allows the injector to physically alter the RFID label on a syringe once it is used, thus 36 Health Imaging & IT | November 2008 disabling its future use, which prevents an accidental air embolism caused from using an empty, used syringe. Additionally, the system automatically transfers drug and achieved exam protocol information onto a printed label for the patient record, which reduces the need for manual data entry, thereby offering the potential to help increase efﬁciency and accuracy. The company also is showcasing the Optistar Elite contrast delivery system, designed to inject MR contrast media into a patient’s vascular system. DeJarnette Research Systems (Booth 5423) is demonstrating its dyseCT automated CT segmentation product. With dyseCT VMS and software version 4.0, a veriﬁcation and quality control user interface serves as a backup to the product’s automatic body segmentation capabilities. The interface addresses the issues associated with handling automatic segmentation algorithm failures. dyseCT’s new veriﬁcation GUI allows for simpliﬁed error recovery and allows end-users to more easily integrate dyseCT into daily work ow. GE Healthcare (Booth 4839) is highlighting the GE LightSpeed CT750 HD. With a detector made from modiﬁed garnet gemstones, the scanner offers up to 33 percent greater detail throughout the body and up to 47 percent greater detail in the heart, without sacriﬁcing dose, the company says.
