United Ski 2008 - (Page 29) Resort Hotels Canada from o ls nly per nig ht Hote Whistler & Blackcomb £33 ❄ Just 75 miles from Vancouver, Whistler has a well deserved reputation as a very serious ski resort. Quaintly taking its name from burrowing, whistlering marmots, you’ll whistle too, in appreciation of the biggest vertical descent in North America. The Skiing One pass covers everything and the two mountains of Whistler and Blackcomb are truly integrated. You will find wonderfully groomed trails and wide open areas for the beginners, but it’s the intermediate and more confident skier that will find Whistler – Blackcomb heaven sent. Although Whistler has the bowls and the array of criss-crossing piste, Blackcomb is a little easier to maintain your bearings on. It’s no less exhilarating though. You’ll find America’s largest vertical descent here as well as over sixteen single and double diamonds chutes; these aren’t for the fainthearted! ❄ Other activities Heli-skiing, Ice skating, Snowshoeing, Sleigh ridding, Horse ridding, Indoor tennis, Para Gliding, Swimming Families The simple fact that Whistler village is pedestrianised immediately makes it a favourite with families. Also, fifteen percent of the runs are rated easy – which is ample for budding youngsters, wanting to improve their technique in the excellent ski school. Another plus is the lift pricing structure; all children under 6 ski for Free, and there are two other price brackets for 7 – 12 year olds and 13 – 18 year olds, making it a little easier on the parents pocket. Please note that prebooking is advised for all facilities. Out & About Many rate the Village in Whistler as their primary reason to visit this destination. Developed by famed architectural planners, the village offers panoramic views of the Coastal Mountains. The area is as busy at midnight as at noon with more nightclubs and entertainment venues than any other North American ski resort. If you were to let your imagination run wild and specify the optimum ski resort then you wouldn’t be far from describing Whistler – it’s that good!
