United Vacations - America 2008 - (Page 83) Holiday Information Passports and Visas All passengers are required to hold a valid 10 year British Citizens machine-readable (red) passport or e-passport (biometric passport) with an infrared chip, issued after 26 Oct 2006. All children, including babies, now require their own machine-readable (red) passport, prior to travelling to the USA / Canada. It will no longer be possible for children to travel to the USA / Canada on their parents passport. If you or your children do not have their own passport, allow 8-12 weeks for your request to be processed. The majority of British machine-readable passport holders do not normally require a visa to visit the USA / Canada providing they will be in the USA / Canada for no more than 90 days, holding a return ticket, have the right of abode in the UK and complete a Visa Waiver Form. Any passengers holding a British passport issued overseas, will be required to obtain a valid US / Canadian entry visa. All passengers will be required to prove, upon arrival, that they have accommodation booked in the USA / Canada. This is not just the case of writing an address on the immigration visa waiver form, the will need to show evidence of a confirmed reservation including the post (zip) code. Please note that any passengers who are denied entry as a result of incomplete documentation will not be eligible for a refund. We strongly recommend that you contact your travel agent or the US Embassy or the Canadian High Commission for full details on the conditions of the Visa Waiver and / or entry requirements as exclusions apply. For the latest passport and visa requirements, contact the US Embassy before travel (www.usembassy.org.uk) on 09055 444546 (calls charged at £1.30 per minute), or Canadian High Commission on 08917 15000 (calls charged at £0.50 per minute). Alternatively see the British Passport Information Service website (www.ukps.gov.uk). United Vacations cannot be responsible for giving correct information as this can change without notice at any time and it is therefore your responsibility to ensure you have the correct documentation and are eligible to enter the USA or Canada. Foreign Office Travel Advice We recommend that you seek advice from the Foreign Office regarding your holiday destination(s) prior to travel. The website address is www.fco.gov.uk/knowbeforeyougo. Alternatively you can call ABTA’s Information line on 0901 201 5050 (calls charged at 50p per minute). Health and Inoculations At the time of going to press UK residents do not require any vaccinations for travel to the USA. Stringent hygiene laws in America ensure that standards are high but travel does carry some health risks. Your travel agent will be able to advise further or you can ask for the DHSS leaflet, D3, Health Advice to Travellers. In addition, it is possible at times, especially in warmer areas, that insects such as ants and cockroaches may be in evidence. Their presence does not necessarily imply unhygenic conditions, and your accommodation management will normally deal with the problem immediately it is advised. Flight & Airport Information Check-in Recommended check-in time for all transatlantic flights is 3 hours prior to departure (90 minutes prior to departure for UK connecting flights with British Midland). This will allow time for all pre-departure procedures and any possible delays in your journey to the airport. Although we are pleased to allocate seats at the time of booking these seating arrangements cannot be guaranteed and neither can it be guaranteed that all members of a party will be seated together. Please note that seats in EXIT rows can only be allocated on day of departure, at check-in, and then only to passengers over the age of 16 who are 100% physically fit. Luggage Allowance Each passenger will be allowed 2 pieces of checked baggage, dimensions not to exceed 62"/157cm (1st piece), and the two combined must not exceed 107”/272cm (Max.combined weight allowed 50lbs/22kg). A golf bag and clubs will be considered as one piece of your baggage allowance. In addition passengers will be entitled to 1 piece of cabin baggage not exceeding 45"/114cm. (Fully collapsible pushchairs and wheelchairs are carried free of charge.) Infants are entitled to 1 piece of checked baggage not exceeding 39"/99cm. Excess baggage can be carried, at the airline’s discretion, and if able to do so a charge will apply. No one piece of luggage may exceed 50lbs/22kg in weight. In the event of baggage loss or damage, it is imperative that you immediately report any lost or damaged baggage to the airline concerned and refer to your insurance policy. Special Meal Requests: United Airlines require 24 hours notice for any special meal requests that you may have, including children's meals for those over 2 years of age. Infant meals are available for babies aged over 8 months, although we do recommend parents take some provisions. Disabled Passengers United Vacations welcomes all customers, including those with disabilities and we endeavour to meet individual needs. However, in order to assist fully, upon notification of your disability to us by you or your Travel Agent at the time of booking, we will forward an ABTA disability check-list for you to complete and return to us. Once we are aware of the disabilities, special requirements and assistance required, we will determine whether we can supply the service required. The holiday will not be confirmed until this has been ascertained. Please note, special facilities can be requested but may not be guaranteed. Accommodation If you are travelling as a party of 3 or more, and are sharing the hotel room (where applicable), please note the child or 3rd/4th adult prices are based on sharing the existing bedding in the hotel room. A cot or rollaway bed will usually incur an extra charge. Please note that rooms do not provide three single beds. While some double rooms in the hotels have two double beds, this is not always the case, and, depending on the size of the hotel rooms, some may only have one double bed. All accommodation throughout this brochure ( unless stated otherwise ) is based on ‘Run of House’. This means you will be accommodated in a standard room which may be located in any part of the hotel. In general, rooms are available by 3pm on the day of your arrival and should be vacated by 11am on your departure. In many hotels, the minimum checkin age is 21 years. Many hotels in the USA are keen to encourage a healthy environment and it is becoming increasingly common for properties to adopt an entirely smoke free policy. We are not in a posision to supply a list of these establishments and would refer you to the hotels own website for more information. Special requests for a smoking room are considered to be a preference and cannot be guaranteed. Mandatory Service Fees & Energy Fees At time of going to press, our prices include all known mandatory resort, service and/or energy surcharge fees (unless otherwise stated). However, in the current climate it is possible, during the validity of this brochure, that certain additional charges, payable locally in resort, may be introduced by individual hotels, according to local circumstances. In such instances following notification we will do our best to contact you and ask whether you wish to continue with the booking or cancel without penalty. National Park Accommodation Accommodation in National Parks is generally of a modest standard often including basic facilities and catering. Please bear in mind that the accommodation prices often reflect the location rather than the standard of accommodation. Pregnancy United Airlines will accept without question women passengers up to 8 months into their pregnancy providing all return travel is completed within the 8 month period. Please note however, that United Vacations recommended travel insurance does not provide cover for pregnant women whose return date of travel is less than three months before due date. We recommend that in any event you consult your doctor before travelling. Currency Surprisingly it can be difficult to exchange sterling in the USA, and you are advised to obtain some small den omination dollar bills and travellers cheques, particularly for immediate expenses on arrival, such as freeway tolls. Credit cards are an integral part of the American way of life, and United Vacations recommend that you carry at least one of the major names, such as American Express, Visa, Mastercard or Diners Club, as you will normally be asked for an imprint of your card on arrival, or a cash deposit, to cover incidentals. Transfers All airport transfers are based on shuttle bus transfers. In most areas, they do not operate between midnight and 07.00 hours. Public Holidays We are unable to accept liability for any alterations or withdrawal of facilities due to National or Public Holidays and suggest that you consult your travel agent or relevant Tourist Board for further information. Brochure Descriptions & Free Offers Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of descriptions and information. However, we are not always able to control all the components of the holiday arrangements and it is possible that an advertised facility may be withdrawn or changed. We cannot be held responsible for changes to the content of advertised free offers and we are unable to accept liability for loss of an advertised facility or withdrawal of free offers. Unused Items No refunds are available on unused or partially used services/items. Hotel Vouchers Accommodation Vouchers do not guarantee room availability and participating hotels may not accept vouchers even if rooms are available, unless reservations are made in advance. Due to currency variations and local and seasonal hotel promotions the rates charged for hotel vouchers may not always be the lowest available. Coach Tours Most tours can only operate with a minimum number of customers.
