American Heart Association Scientific Sessions 2007 Final Program - (Page 17) Program About the Program The American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions is the world’s largest annual convention for scientists and healthcare professionals devoted to cardiovascular diseases and stroke. population science • Recognize emerging trends in the distribution of cardiovascular disease and stroke and their impact on public health. • Compare and contrast newly identified risk factors for cardiovascular disease and stroke. • Integrate effective strategies to prevent cardiovascular disease and stroke in clinical practice. Target Audience Researchers, scientists, physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals who care for and treat cardiovascular disease and stroke patients. Program Objectives • To present recent advances in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease and stroke for physicians, scientists, nurses and healthcare professionals. • To present new clinical research advances through the Late-Breaking Clinical Trials sessions. • To provide a forum for the exchange of new research by scientists and investigators in cardiovascular disease and stroke. • To provide an opportunity, in various forums, including small groups, for attendee-expert interaction in question-and-answer sessions related to daily practice and public health issues. • To provide, through the Cardiovascular Seminars, How-To Sessions, and Sunday Morning Programs, a review of current patterns in preventing, diagnosing and treating cardiovascular disease and stroke. • To provide attendees, through the Plenary and Special Sessions, an opportunity to learn about state-of-the-art cardiovascular research and how it applies to clinical practice. Learning Objectives After attending Scientific Sessions, participants will be able to: translational science • Understand the adaptation of fundamental science to the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac and vascular disease in patients and populations. Continuing Education Credit Certificates for CME/CE credit and Certificates of Attendance are available using an online certificate request system. All professional registrants may use any computer to access the online system at scientificsessions.org following the conference. To obtain a certificate, you must log in using your AHA user name and password or badge number and last name (exactly as it appears on your badge). First, you will be required to complete the Conference Evaluation Survey. Then, you will claim CME/CE credit for the amount of time spent at the conference. Certificates can be printed on any black and white or color printer. International Attendance Verification All international professional registrants may obtain proof of attendance for their country of origin in the International Lounge, W 414a. You will be required to verify and update your contact information before receiving your attendance verification form. Continuing Medical Education — Physicians The American Heart Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The American Heart Association designates this educational activity for a maximum of 32.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. All faculty participating in CME/CE activities sponsored by the American Heart Association will disclose to the audience (1) significant financial relationships with the manufacturer(s) of products from the commercial supporter(s) and/or the manufacturer(s) of products or devices discussed in their presentation, and (2) unlabeled/ unapproved uses of drugs or devices discussed in their presentation. Such disclosures will be made in writing in the course presentation materials. basic science • Identify key areas of cutting-edge research in heart failure, atherosclerosis, stroke, cardiovascular genetics, molecular biology and arrhythmias. • Explain basic processes linking cellular biology and biochemistry with cardiovascular physiology. • Implement new laboratory techniques to answer fundamental questions about cardiovascular pathophysiology. • Discuss novel concepts regarding the development of atherosclerosis and heart failure. • Recognize the promises and pitfalls of gene therapy for cardiovascular disease. clinical science • Translate emerging clinical science to clinical practice in patients with cardiovascular disease and stroke. • Apply the “state-of-the-art” knowledge base in multiple subspecialty areas of clinical cardiology. • Implement new strategies and specific therapies for treating cardiovascular disorders and stroke. Continuing Education — Nurses This program (07-NC-068) has been approved by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) for 37.50 contact hours, CERP Category A, File number 00014011. 17 Sessions Science OnDemand ® – HeartQuarters 1346 • West Hall C Lobby • scienceondemand.org http://scientificsessions.org http://scienceondemand.org
