In 1999 it was renamed to honor Dr Russell Ross. Sol Sherry Distinguished Lecture in Thrombosis Wolfram Ruf, La Jolla, CA Cell Signaling of the TF Coagulation Pathway Monday, Nov 5, 2:00–2:30 pm Orange County Convention Center, W304cd The Sol Sherry Lecture honors the founder of the Council on Thrombosis, which merged with the Council on Arteriosclerosis and the Vascular Biology Working Group in 1996. During the 1960s, Dr Sherry recognized that little attention was given to the study of thrombosis, and there was inadequate appreciation of its importance as a major health problem. He initiated and headed a task force on thrombosis for the National Academy of Sciences National Research Council, resulting in the formation of the International Society on Thrombosis and Homeostasis, the creation of Specialized Centers of Thrombosis Research (NHLBI), and the start of the Council on Thrombosis.
