Together Against Prostate, Kidney and Bladder Cancers Join us for our annual 5k run or 2k walk to show your support for increased research in the 3 key areas of prostate, bladder and kidney cancers. The event will take place on Saturday, May 17, at Pointe Orlando, nea r t he Ora nge County Convention Center. Registration opens at 6:00 a.m. and the run/walk begins at 7:00 a.m. Proceeds from this event will fund urologic research at the AUA Foundation in our efforts to move closer to a cure for prostate, kidney and bladder cancers. AUA Foundation Exhibit Booth This year, the AUA Foundation booth (#409) will offer a multitude of opportunities to expand the reach of your office. We will once again serve as an official stop in the Passport Game, as well as a portal to the ideal patient display for your urology practice. We will showcase our free patient education brochures and newsletters, as well as our 3 new DVDs providing patients with prostate cancer and their families with inform mation to help guide t them through the d difficult journey of d diagnosis, treatment a and recovery. Grantscraft Course Dr. Gary Smith will chair the Grantscraft: How to Construct a Competitive Grant Proposal course (#29IC) on Sunday, May 18, from 11:45 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. Dr. Smith and Laura Moen, Ph.D., NIDDK’s Director of Renal and Urology Training Programs, will provide an introduction/review for researchers of potential sources of funding, the components of a successful grant application and the grant review process. Research Forum The annual Basic Sciences Research Forum will showcase the science of some of urology’s best young investigators. “Showcasing Young Investigators” will be held on Sunday, May 18, from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. in Rooms W207 A/B/C at the Orange County Convention Center. The presenters, selected from nominations by AUA specialty societies, will be: Trinity Bivalacqua, M.D., Ph.D., of Johns Hopkins University (SMS), Daniel Lin, M.D., of the University of Washington (SUO), Anthony Bella, M.D., of the Ottawa Hospital (SMS), Jodi Maranchie, M.D., of the University of Pittsburgh (SBUR) and Brian Matlaga, M.D., of Johns Hopkins University (R.O.C.K. Society). AUA Foundation Scholars Award Breakfast The AUA Foundation Scholars Award Breakfast is scheduled for Tuesday, May 20, from 6:30 – 9:00 a.m. at the Peabody Hotel, Plaza International Ballroom A, B & C. The breakfast is a major networking event to acknowledge current and ending classes, as well as the new class of 14 scholars and AUAF sponsors and donors. Wade Bushman, M.D., Ph.D., will be honored as the 2008 Distinguished Former Scholar and Natasha Kyprianou, Ph.D., will be honored as the 2008 Distinguished Mentor. Community Cross Training in Urological Wellness The AUA Foundation will host a day-long program on Tuesday, May 20, from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., to train voluntary organizations, community leaders and health care professionals working with patients, caregivers and the public on urological health and wellness. This training will provide participants with peer-reviewed information and materials to conduct programs on bladder and prostate health within their communities, including a free Urology Health and Wellness Toolkit comprised of specific modules for plug-and-play application.
