Heart Rhythm Daily - Day 1, 2008 - (Page 13) WE D N E S DAY / T H U R S DAY ABSTRACTS PLUS 13 M AY 1 4 – 1 5 , 2 0 0 8 Expanded sessions include discussion of new research Building on the success at last year’s Annual Scientific Sessions, the Heart Rhythm Society will once again have expert commentators on-hand to discuss many of the high-quality abstracts presented during the annual meeting. Of the many abstracts being presented during the next several days, more than 40 percent will be followed by a 15-minute discussion of the data’s clinical relevance. “The thing that is fantastic about this is that we have young investigators presenting abstracts, and they will get immediate feedback from someone who knows the history of the field. Someone who knows what’s happened in the past; knows what’s happening in the present,” said Douglas L. Packer, MD, FHRS, Abstract Chair of the Scientific Program Committee. “It gives today’s abstracts a context such that we can predict future applications, and focus on exactly what a practicing clinician needs to take away and put that information into their practice for the benefit of patients.” The abstracts presented during these en ha nced sessions w i l l cover new information on a range of topics from arrhythmia syndromes to implantable devices. “I’ve been thoroughly impressed with the high quality of abstracts submitted this year,” Dr. Packer said. “There’s outstanding basic sc ience. There’s outsta nd i ng translational science. And there are outstanding clinical reports from a wide number of centers around the world.” The Abstracts Plus sessions will take place from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Friday.
