Heart Rhythm Daily - Day 2, 2008 - (Page 10) M AY 1 6 , 2 0 0 8 10 FR IDAY Review courses expedite preparation for recertification Physicians facing recertification this year can fulfill one American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) requirement during a Saturday afternoon session. The ABIM Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Recertification Course will guide physicians through one ABIM module (B3-E). The session takes place from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday in Room 301 of the Moscone Center. “What we’ve been able to do is partner with the ABIM to be their educational limb for CCEP,” said N.A. Mark Estes, MD, FHRS, Incoming Heart Rhythm Society President. “In a two-hour session, we’ll work our way through the entire module. It’s estimated that it could take physicians 4-10 hours to complete on their own.” Physicians who choose to complete modules on their own, face hours of work looking up information, reading recent literature, and conferring with colleagues to complete modules. The recertification session is led by N.A. Mark Estes, MD, FHRS and David E. Haines, MD, FHRS, who co-direct the Society’s Board Review Course, and can quickly get to the heart of what practitioners need to know for recertification. Expert faculty will discuss each topic, and attendees will use the Audience Response System to participate and answer the questions. After the session, attendees can turn in the answers from the session to the ABIM to receive credit for the module. This module will award participants 10 points towards the Maintenance of Certification Program (MOC). “We’ve found that the interest level is very high for this, and people who attend say that this is a much better way to meet the requirement,” Dr. Estes said. The Soc iet y w i l l of fer a not her recertification review course for a new module this fall which was released by the ABIM in April. This Board Review Course takes place Sept. 24-27 in Chicago. The Board Review Course contains comprehensive content focused on preparation for ABIM certification and recertification examinations in clinical cardiac electrophysiology. For those not preparing for the exam, the course is an excellent update and overview of cardiac electrophysiology. For more information or to sign up for the fall course, visit www.HRSonline.org.
