WONDER-ful Event Celebrating One Of
Our Own
Partnering with CU Advocates, the School of Dental Medicine
hosted an exclusive screening of the movie, WONDER. Based
on the New York Times bestseller, WONDER is very special
to CU Dental, as our own Dr. Francis Smith wrote a heartfelt
forward in the special edition of the book. The sold out event
included a book signing opportunity with Dr. Smith, and all
attendees learned more about craniofacial anomalies as Dr.
Smith shared his life experiences and scientific work. Dean
Denise Kassebaum and Dr. Trevor Williams also highlighted
more about the innovative research at CU Dental. The event
was a huge success, and we are fortunate to have Dr. Smith
and all of our very talented researchers who are working to
unlock the mysteries of craniofacial disorders.

Multi-Cultural Celebration
The first annual CU Dental Multi Cultural
Celebration was a huge success.
Celebrating our cultural diversity, the
event gave faculty, staff and students
the opportunity to learn about different
cultures through tasting ethnically
diverse foods, learning how to tie on a
turban, and thanks to Bella Diva Dance,
everyone experienced dances and
music from around the world with a
few brave souls participating in
dance lessons.

ADEA Recognitions
CU Dental is beaming with pride
after this year's ADEA Annual Session.
Dean Kassebaum was awarded the
Chair of the ADEA Board of Directors
Citations for her exceptional service
to ADEA and the dental education
community. And upon the nomination
from CU Dental, the Colorado Dental
Association accepted the William
J. Gies Award for Vision in a Public
or Private Partner.

Thank You Veterans

Showing Our Thanks to
CU Veterans
The CU Heroes Clinic at the School
of Dental Medicine and the Office of
Veteran & Military Student Services
invited the public to say thank you to
our military veterans enrolled at CU
Anschutz and CU Denver. Participants
chose their favorite card design
and thank you message, with many
including a special message of their
own. With hundreds of entries, we
mailed cards to over 600 veterans just
in time for Veterans Day.

Prichard Award
Dr. Haroon Ashraf, DDS Class of 2014 and CU
Graduate Periodontics Class of 2017, won the John F.
Prichard Graduate Periodontics Research Competition
in the Basic Science Category for his work entitled
"In vitro analysis of antimicrobial activity between an
amnion-chorion membrane as compared to a collagen
membrane." The Southwest Society of Periodontists
hosts this competition annually, and this is the second
consecutive year that CU Graduate Periodontics has
won the award.
