GENERAL PRACTICE RESIDENCY

DR. KEVIN PATTERSON
Whether serving in leadership roles for dental
organizations, volunteering his time and
expertise to provide dental care locally and
internationally, or providing philanthropic
support for organizations he cares about,
Dr. Kevin Patterson is dedicated to making a
difference.
Patterson is also an enthusiastic University
of Colorado supporter having graduated from
three different CU programs. "CU is a fantastic
university," Patterson said. He received his
bachelor's degree in Arts and Sciences from
CU Boulder in 1983, as well as, a DDS degree
in 1989 and a General Practice Residency
(GPR) in 1990, both from the CU School of
Dental Medicine.
"When I was in dental school on the health
sciences campus, the ER was right next door.
We saw lots of complex cases. CU Dental
inspired me to go into surgery."
Following his GPR residency, Patterson
attended the Mayo Graduate School of
Medicine and finished a six year residency in
oral and maxillofacial surgery to receive his
oral surgery certificate and medical degree. He
returned to Colorado to begin his practice as an
oral and maxillofacial surgeon and has owned
his Cherry Creek practice, Denver Metro OMS,
since 1998.
Patterson has a special interest in
providing care for individuals in need.
He devotes a significant amount of time
providing care for children and adults through
organizations such as Kids in Need of Dentistry,
Dental Lifeline Network, The Metropolitan
Denver Dental Foundation Smile Again Program
and The Metropolitan Denver Domestic
Violence Program.

For Patterson's numerous contributions
to the Denver community, he was awarded
the prestigious Metropolitan Denver Dental
Foundation Award of Excellence in 2011. "One
of the many reasons I enjoy this profession is
because it allows me the opportunity to give
back," said Patterson.
Giving back also includes sharing his
expertise with current dental students at the
CU School of Dental Medicine. "Initially I was
volunteering my time twice a month in the
dental clinic with GPR residents and undergrad
surgery cases. Now I am an associate professor
in surgical dentistry and in the GPR program."
Although he is a full-time practicing oral
surgeon, part-time CU Dental faculty member
and volunteer for numerous organizations and
projects, Patterson also finds time to lead
several groups. He is the acting chair of the
Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
at Swedish Medical Center, secretary for the
Metro Denver Dental Society and the past
president of the Colorado Society of Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is also a devoted
husband and father.
CU Dental takes great pride in alumnus,
Kevin Patterson, who sets a high bar for others
in the dental community as an outstanding
example of achievement, excellence, generosity
and compassion. ■
