Announcing Rx Consult

T

he School, with support from the University of Colorado Health and Welfare Trust and Be Colorado wellness program, has begun providing medication consultation services to CU employees who are insured through the Trust Plan. The service helps those who take multiple medications obtain optimal benefit from prescribed therapies by helping patients understand how the drugs work together. Services are provided by Drs. Katy Trinkley and Steve Smith, co-directors of the Internal Medicine pharmacy consult services at the University of Colorado’s Outpatient Anschutz Medical Campus and Lowry. Consultations are available by appointment on the Boulder, Anschutz Medical, Denver, Colorado Springs and System campuses. During the appointment, the pharmacist reviews all medications, answers any questions or concerns about those medications, and works with the patient and their healthcare provider to ensure medications are working as intended. If you are insured through CU Health and Welfare Trust and take multiple medications, get your meds from more than one healthcare provider, have several health conditions, have difficulty affording your medications or are challenged by remembering to take your medications, this service could be of benefit to you. Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Building Gets the Gold by Being Green!

LEED Gold rating in green design is a first for Anschutz Medical Campus
The new Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Building, which opened Feb. 2011, recently attained LEED Gold certification for New Construction from the U.S. Green Building Council. It is the first building to do so on the Anschutz Medical Campus. All future buildings on this campus will be required to be LEED certified, but for the time being our building is the only one with the gold seal of approval. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an internationally recognized green building certification system, the nationally accepted benchmarks for design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. The system was established to encourage and facilitate the development of more sustainable buildings. Rankings range from “Certified” (the threshold qualification) up to “Platinum”, the highest level. Gold is the second highest rating a building can attain. “We’re very excited by the recognition and achievement. Our building received 43 points, which is four points over the LEED Gold rating,” says Susan Saunders, now retired facilities director for the School, who together with project manager Kathy McNally and Doug Derber, oversaw design and building construction.

Center for Pharmaceutical Outcomes Research Launch and Open House
The Center for Pharmaceutical Outcomes Research (CePOR) hosted an open house reception Jan. 26 to celebrate the launch of this new school-wide center. The major goal of CePOR is to promote training and interdisciplinary research collaborations in the areas of pharmacoeconomics, health services and systems research, drug policy, health benefits design, pharmacoepidemiology, and drug safety. Pharmaceutical outcomes research is comprised of many scientific disciplines, ranging from clinical sciences to economic, social, and administrative sciences. The vision of CePOR is to foster and grow research excellence in three primary disciplines: pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacoeconomics, and pharmaceutical and drug related policy. Within each of these areas, CePOR has two faculty members, specifically one senior faculty member and one junior faculty member, devoted to the development and growth of research, education, and service in the area.
