The programs can also be heard online at www.familyalbumradio.org and www.gardeninginaminute.com. Family Album Radio, a two-minute program that presents “snapshots of our changing families” based on current academic, peer-reviewed family social science research, received the 2007 Media Award from the Council on Contemporary Families. Gardening in Minute, which emphasizes Florida friendly gardening practices that help protect the state’s unique environment, has received five national communication awards. Biological Invaders Hundreds of invasive species – ranging from Africanized bees and Formosan termites to diseases such as citrus canker and greening – threaten Florida’s economy, agriculture and environment. In many cases, these biological invaders also threaten the health and welfare of people. IFAS faculty and staff are working on interdisciplinary research and education programs to stop or manage invasive plant, animal and microbial species. IFAS is one of three main partners in UF’s new Emerging Pathogens Institute, which will develop research and educational outreach capabilities to control emerging pathogens and preserve the health and economy of the state. http://www.familyalbumradio.org http://www.gardeninginaminute.com
