Joseph S. Mariani (StCB, BS el ed ’58) writes, “i have two fabulous daughters…no grandchildren yet.” He is retired from the Boston public schools. Cecilia hodges McCall (StCB, BS El Ed ’58) retired in 2007 from teaching in the English Department at Baruch College, part of the City University of New York. She received her PhD in communication from New york University in 1985. Cecelia has one daughter, named Marcella, and has traveled broadly. She is currently writing a novel about growing up in roxbury, Mass. John P. Mckernan (StCB, BS ed ’58) is married to Margaret McKernan, and they have two sons, John and robert, and five grandchildren. John is retired from his position as school adjustment counselor in the Boston public schools. Patricia Biagi Morawski (StCB, BS el ed ’58) and her husband of 47 years, John, have three sons, two daughters-in-law, one grandson and two granddaughters. they enjoy traveling with their friends, dining out, and attending plays and movies. they are looking forward to a Mediterranean cruise in october. Patricia spends her time volunteering for the Council on aging, working out at the “y,” sewing, and reading. Mary Tramontozzi Mroz (StCB, BS el ed ’58) was a teacher and principal in the Cambridge school department for 42 years and enjoyed every minute of it. She volunteers at a local hospital, and enjoys the company of long-term friends made at college and on the job. Lois f. Murphy (StCB, BS el ed ’58) enjoys lots of skiing, tennis, and traveling, especially ski trips. She retired from the City of Cambridge school department. Marian kremer o’keefe (StCB, BS el ed ’58) married in 1958, and has five children and one grandchild. Marian writes, “For the past 45 years i have worked in the historic preservation field promoting preservation and goodwill projects for museums, cities, and regional historical societies in the United States, Canada, the U.K., and europe via publications, audio-visual presentations, and group tours.” harry Panopoulos (StCB, BS ed ’58) has worked supervising student teachers for Franklin Pierce University since his retirement as vice principal of Milford Middle School. He is currently in excellent health following a total hip replacement, quadruple bypass surgery, and removal of a cancerous tumor attached to his kidney. He writes, “all this after i retired! i joined Gold’s Gym to extend life expectancy. My wife was an excellent ‘nurse’ during recovery time.” Robert A. Sacco Sr. (StCB, BS el ed ’58) retired from full-time work in 1999 but still works as a substitute art specialist, and at an after-school art program in Saugus, Mass. robert taught elementary school in San Diego, Cal.(1958-1959); in Meriden, Conn. (1959-1964); and in Saugus (1964-1988). He became an elementary art specialist in 1988. robert’s fondest achievements are his weekly cartoon in the Saugus Advertiser; a grant he received in 2000 with two colleagues to create a Saugus history coloring book for grades K-5, which he illustrated; and two books on Saugus, entitled Gathering of Memories and Of Time and River, to which he contributed as a cartoonist. one of his fondest college memories was being the staff cartoonist for the school paper, Chalkdust, for his entire four years. Peggy Condrick Scahill (StCB, BS el ed ’58) writes, “i have had the most wonderful life—so far! two wonderful, caring children, a loving husband, some fabulous travel around the world and more! Small bump in the road—breast cancer! Presently in great health with good friends and no worries!” Joan D’Arcy Sheridan (StCB, BS el ed ’58) taught 1st grade in Chelsea for two years, and 3rd and 6th grades in Newton for six years. She received a master’s degree from Boston College in 1963 and married Hugh Sheridan, a Newton firefighter, in 1965. they have three sons: John, a labor lawyer in New york; Patrick, a social studies teacher in Brockton; and D’Arcy, who is autistic and works at Stop & Shop. in 1988 Joan and her husband were nominated for the “Distinguished Parents award” because of their efforts to get D’Arcy into Needham High School. they were successful, with the help of the Disability Law Center in Boston, and D’Arcy had excellent teachers in Needham. in 1986, Joan returned to teaching at St. theresa in West roxbury, retiring in 2005. She writes, “my superior education at Boston State not only helped me to be a good teacher but also an advocate for my son.” Thomas f. Sheridan (StCB, BS ed ’58) and his wife, married 44 years, have three sons and four grandchildren. He has been working part-time at Prometric as a test center administrator since he retired from teaching eleven years ago. Barbara Williams Smith (StCB, BS ed ’58) taught for eight years then started a business building, repairing, launching, and hauling sailboats. She and her husband retired to Maine in 1998. they have traveled to the U.K., Finland, russia, Georgia, Syria, lebanon, Korea, and Vietnam. Regina Cocce Stoddard (StCB, BS el ed ’58) has four children and seven grandchildren, all in Massachusetts. She recently returned from a family trip to italy, which was enjoyed by all. Joan Barnett Sweeney (StCB, BS el ed ’58) retired in 2002 from the Foxborough public schools and is enjoying every minute of retirement. Her four children and eight grandchildren are the loves of her life. in her spare time, she likes to paint, hike, bike, and cross-country ski. frederick P. Tibets (StCB, BS el ed ’58) and louise Jalalian tibets (StCB, BS el ed ’58) have one son, two daughters, two grandsons, and one granddaughter. For the past two years, they have lived in an over-55 community in Bridgewater. Rose M. Turco (StCB, BS el ed ’58) retired in 1999 after teaching 5th grade (1958-1963), then working as a senior high mathematics teacher/administrator for 35 years (1964-1999). She received her Med in 1963 and an Ma in math in 1965 from Boston College. She gained a great sense of accomplishment in developing programs which encouraged all students to pursue the highest level of mathematics their interest or ability would allow. a recent trip to alaska was awesome! Pauline Sullivan Walker (StCB, BS el ed ’58) still teaches ancient World History to 6th graders at andrews Middle School in Medford, Mass.
