b r o A De N i Ng KN o Wle D ge t hrough our FACUlty rebuilding Sustainable Communities in iraq cholars and practitioners from iraq, the u.S., and around the world gathered this July for rebuilding Sustainable Communities in iraq: policies, programs and projects, a four-day conference sponsored by umass boston’s College of Community and public Service and supported by the Curtis international Fund of the boston Foundation. “boston has always drawn people who look for ways to promote a more just and inclusive political order,” says paul S. grogan, president and Ceo of the boston Foundation. “this is an appropriate place to explore how to build a new society in iraq—and we at the foundation are proud to have played a role in making this conference possible.” the conference explored how the reconstruction of iraq can be carried out in a way that promotes social justice, economic and political sustainability, and the full participation of all stakeholders. it has also led to the creation of the Center for rebuilding Sustainable Communities after Disasters, which will focus on a new issue each year, starting with children and families in 2008.
