Donors to the John Joseph moakley Chair of peace and reconciliation, established in 2006 through its holder, padraig o’malley (left in photo), and housed in the mcCormack graduate School of policy Studies, are helping to bring about such understanding, creating the foundation for reconciliation in that war-torn society. in early September 2007, secret talks were organized by the mcCormack School and a helsinki-based organization among leaders from iraq, Northern ireland, and South Africa. the moakley Chair positioned padraig o’malley to engage these leaders in conversations about peace initiatives in the latter two societies and their possible applications in iraq, thus advancing negotiations about non-violence, independent and effective courts, and the protection of human rights. “the university believes that a public policy school should be deeply involved in public policy issues,” says mcCormack School Dean Steve Crosby (right in photo). “Clearly, the moakley Chair is making a huge difference.” i Martin J.
