The University of Northern Iowa College of Education - Fall 2007 - (Page 12) UNI College of Education Excellence in Teacher Education Camp Adventure wants YOU! UNI undergraduate or graduate students with experience in early childhood education are being recruited as interns for a Camp Adventure ™ program at U.S. military bases in Europe, Japan and Florida. The opportunity for early childhood educators arose because of increased staffing needs and more single parents on bases, said Jen Kennedy, intern coordinator for the program. While Camp Adventure’s™ primary focus is a service learning program for college-aged students that delivers child and youth services in the summer, Kennedy explained the early childhood education 12 experience is a 12- credit hour educational program for 17 weeks. “We need students who are qualified in early childhood education. We pay their airfare and housing so it’s a great opportunity for students to network and expand their teaching skills,” Kennedy said. To prepare for their assignments, students do a self-study program on caring for pre-school children using standards from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) for developmentally appropriate education. The first five days on the military base, students are further trained on the job, Kennedy said. Fall 2007 http://www.uni.edu/coe/ http://www.uni.edu/campadv/
