The University of Northern Iowa College of Education - Fall 2007 - (Page 13) Excellence in Teacher Education UNI College of Education When she developed the training program, Kennedy relied on several UNI resources in early childhood education including Candice York, UNI Child Development Center, and Christie Sales, Regents’ Center for Early Developmental Education. Students sign on for 17 weeks and are assigned to Army or Air Force bases. Kennedy said the main sites are 2-3 locations in England, 5-10 in Germany, one in Northern Italy, one in Iwakuni, Japan, and one in Key West, FL. “A lot of participants decide to stay in the field because they really enjoyed the experience,” Kennedy said. “Some get hired where they did internships and some return for a masters degree in teaching early childhood education. The program has been successful for the student interns and for the military who tell us they couldn’t operate their daycare program without the competent staff we provide.” Fall 2007 13 http://www.uni.edu/coe/
