Jan Olson of the Sioux City Community School District was named 2007 Mentor Program Leader of the Year. She has served as fulltime coordinator of the mentor program for seven years and before that was a classroom teacher, school counselor and district/state administrator of career development. Reiss noted that the 2008 Mentoring and Induction Institute will again be held in Cedar Falls, but later in the spring (June 15-17) to make it easier for beginning teachers to attend. One featured speaker will be Marcia Tate, national educational consultant and author of Worksheets Don’t Grow Dendrites: 20 Instructional Strategies that Engage the Brain.
