The purpose of this partnership is to bring to manufacturers some of the most sophisticated engineering research and development resources in the country. MRDI brings together faculty, students and several advanced research centers to help manufacturers tackle a variety of complex engineering problems. MRDI clients get access to engineering expertise they do not have on staff or cannot afford. MRDI Focus • Long-term partnerships with business • On-going research relationships • Product development and improvement • Process development and improvement MRDI Benefits • Manufacturing clients gain access to expertise • Students learn real-world application of skills • Faculty learns what skills are needed for the future Recent Clients • Denso Manufacturing Tennessee, Inc., • Radio Systems Corporation • Fischer USA • Mills Products • Phenotype Screening Corporation • Alcan Packaging • Nissan • Four Star Manufacturing • Behlen Manufacturing • Yale Lock • Accu-Router Inc. • 4D Medical Systems Recent Projects • Root cause analysis for tube splitting in hydro-forming process • Material analysis • Alternate material study • Sludge recycling • New product design • Ceramics waste recycling • Supply chain logistics analysis • Design of storm center latch • Industrial wood router redesign • Skin imaging system design • Digital imaging noise reduction For more information, contact Bill Wiley, MRDI program manager, (865) 974-8464 or bill.wiley@tennessee.edu. www.cis.utk.edu/research/university The Manufacturing Research and Development Institute (MRDI) brings engineering and other academic research and development resources to solve practical problems for the benefit of existing and potential manufacturers and economic impact for the state of Tennessee.
