Apprenticeship programs are composed of two parts: (1) on-the-job training and (2) classroom instruction. On-the-job training is provided by a sponsor who exposes the apprentice to practical applications in all phases of a particular craft. The classroom related instruction is an organized and systematic form of instruction designed to provide the apprentice with knowledge of the theoretical and technical aspects of his or her craft. Total completion of an apprenticeship program will take from two to five years, depending upon the craft. The University neither provides on-the-job training nor acts as program sponsor for apprentices. Individuals must locate their own program sponsors. New apprenticeship classes, with a minimum of 15 students, can be offered on request from the community, business, and industry. For additional information on apprenticeship classes, contact the Apprenticeship Office. Apprentice classes cannot be taken for audit without departmental approval. 4. • Any approved Behavioral Science, Social, or Political Science Distribution Course BIOLOGY OR PHYSICAL SCIENCE • EGDT 1810 Principles of Technology (2.0) • Any approved Biology or Physical Science Distribution Course PHYSICAL EDUCATION/HEALTH/SAFETY OR ENVIRONMENT • Any approved Physical Education, Health, Safety or Environment Course ADDITIONAL CREDITS FROM ANY OF THE ABOVE Emphasis: Complete one of the following: • Aircraft Mechanic • Carpenter Union Apprentice (JATC) • Diesel Mechanics Apprentice • Electrical Construction Apprentice • Electrical Union Apprentice (JATC) • HVAC Apprentice • Industrial Maintenance Apprentice • Lineman Apprentice • Lineman Meter Apprentice • Lineman Substation Apprentice • Plumber Apprentice • Sheet Metal 2.0 1.0 5.0 48.0 48.0 48.5 48.0 50.0 48.0 48.0 48.0 48.0 48.0 48.0 48.0 Graduation Requirements: The above will need to be completed by new apprentices before approval will be granted to register for any apprenticeship class.
